What are the Rules of Cricket

Cricket is a game that is played under a set of rules which govern the game as with any other sport.  The rules have been set for the game and played under the same for over 250 years.  The basic nature of the rules set up is to make sure that the game is played under the spirit of the game and to avoid misuse of any kind by the players.  Though incidents of misuse are prevalent it is up to the umpires and players to make sure that the game is not affected in any way with the application of the rules.

Cricket has a basic set of 42 rules with many sub sections and headings which allow a player or an umpire interpret the same keeping in mind that the game is superior at all times.  Though basic rules do not change during the course of a game, changes may be incorporated by the captains in consultation with the umpires to bring about a solution to any problem that may arise.

The rules of cricket are formed by a technical committee drawn out by the ICC which is the governing body of the game the world over.  Experienced players from members of the elite ICC panel are called upon to bring in their suggestions and make the game better for the players and the watching public.  They are responsible to oversee that the rules are followed keeping in mind that the game is played in the right spirit.
